About Hexarelin
Hexarelin (examorelin; EP 23905) is a synthetic hexapeptide GH secretagogue with the sequence His-D-(2-Me)Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂, distinguishable from GHRP-6 by the presence of a 2-methyl group on the D-tryptophan residue at position 2. This methyl substitution markedly increases GHSR-1a binding affinity compared to GHRP-6 and confers enhanced resistance to peptidyl endopeptidase degradation. Hexarelin is the most potent member of the Met-enkephalin-derived GH secretagogue hexapeptide series in GHSR binding assays.
Research applications of hexarelin include GHSR-1a receptor pharmacology characterization, high-affinity radioligand displacement studies for ghrelin receptor binding assay development, comparative GH secretagogue potency ranking studies in pituitary cell models, and investigation of its interactions with the CD36 scavenger receptor system in cardiovascular cell models — a receptor interaction not shared by ipamorelin or GHRP-2.
